Another year has gone by and a new one is getting started. For lots of people, that means it’s time to make a few New Year’s resolutions.
The tricky thing about resolutions is that they are easier to make than to keep. The secret to sticking to them is making goals that you can achieve without too much stress and that will improve your life in a noticeable way if you do keep them. Here are a few beauty resolutions to make in 2018 to help your skin look its best and to help you feel great all around.
Resolution 1: Wear Sunscreen
Not to sound like a broken record or anything, but exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays is one of the leading causes of wrinkles and other signs of aging. While you can schedule treatments, such as Fraxel, that help to reverse or correct visible sun damage, your best bet is often to nip the sun damage in the bud, before it can happen.
While you might think that you can skip sunscreen in the winter, when the days are shorter and you’re most likely spending most of your time indoors, there’s still a chance of exposure, so don’t put off this resolution. The easiest way to stick to it is to swap out a product you already use, such as lotion, with one that contains sunscreen. You’ve already got the habit of putting on the lotion everyday, now you also get to benefit from the added sun protection.
Resolution 2: Take a Healthier Approach to Food and Exercise
One reason why beauty resolutions often fail is because people set their sights too high. It’s easy to get discouraged if you resolve to lost 25 pounds, but discover that you’ve barely lost one after a week or two.
Instead of focusing on numbers, let 2018 be the year that you take a healthier approach to your diet and exercise. Eat more whole grains, vegetables and fruits, and lean protein, but try to enjoy what you eat, rather than be constantly worrying about the number of calories or grams of fat a meal has. It’s better to stick to healthy whole foods than it is to processed or packaged, even if the processed foods claim to have fewer calories.
If, a few months into the year, you still notice some stubborn fat lingering around, you might be a candidate for Coolsculpting, a non-surgical treatment that helps flush away extra fat by freezing it. Coolsculpting is designed to get rid of that last bit of fat you have hanging around, it’s not meant for the start of a weight loss journey.
Resolution 3: Try Something New
It’s important for your well-being and health to try new things from time to time, whether those new things are activities or hobbies or new beauty products. For 2018, what new anti-aging treatment or beauty product will you try? Maybe this is the year you get Botox or fillers or the year that you finally figure out contouring. If you want to learn more about the the non-surgical cosmetic treatments out there and what they can do for you, the staff at Mirror Mirror Beauty Boutique can answer your questions.
Resolution 4: Re-evaluate Your Skincare Regimen
As the years go by, the products that might have been just right for your skin at one point in time might seem like they’ve stopped working or that they’re less effective. Your skin’s needs change with age. The cleansers and lotions that kept you acne-free as a teen are going to be too harsh for you in your 20s. Likewise, the products you used in your 20s might not be enough to slow down the signs of aging when you hit your 30s or 40s. Talk to your aesthetician or plastic surgeon to learn more about the skin products that are most appropriate for you based on your age and skin type.
Resolution 5: Clean Up and Clear Out
Lots of people resolve to get organized and to clean up as the new year begins. One way to resolve to get organized when it comes to skincare and beauty is to sort through your products. Lotions and cosmetics don’t last forever. In fact, some of them barely last for few months. If you have products that you opened a year ago, it’s a good idea to toss them out. If you used them regularly, go ahead and replenish. But if you never did use the product, it’s probably best that you don’t restock.
