As a fat loss procedure, CoolSculpting is arguably the best non-invasive body contouring method currently on the market. It is safe for your skin, but the results you will get depend a lot on you and the skill of your aesthetician.
If you are new to the procedure, take a quick look at our CoolSculpting page to understand what it is and how it works. This knowledge is critical in ensuring that you are a good candidate for the procedure and that your expectations are realistic.
After your CoolSculpting session, you have to take steps so that you get the most out of the procedure and recover quickly and safely. Here are seven important tips from our top aestheticians to help you get the best results from CoolSculpting.
1.-Massage the treated area
Immediately after your CoolSculpting procedure, a member of our beauty team will perform a short, vigorous massage on the treated area. This kneading and circular massage will help to break down fat cells, which can improve your results by up to 68%.
By maintaining these kneading and circular massage movements at home, it will help to improve circulation and drainage in the area. Four months of diligent massage can improve your results by as much as 44%.
If you have access to vibrational therapy, this can also become a very helpful therapeutic process when done correctly. Both types of therapy will help to break down damaged tissue and improve the fat cell elimination process.
2.-Eat healthy food and drink lots of water
Your CoolSculpting provider should have already told you that the treatment offers subtle, yet highly effective results. In many cases, the amount of fat removed is around 25%.
This means that the ideal candidate for the procedure should be well on their way to a healthy weight already—that is, a person who is already leading a healthy lifestyle through good nutrition and exercise. We always emphasize that CoolSculpting is a fat loss technique, not a weight loss procedure.
If you don’t watch what you eat, it is still possible for fat to accumulate and cause you to miss out on the benefits of the procedure. Restrict yourself mostly to lean proteins, healthy (unsaturated fats), lots of fruits and vegetables, nuts, and whole grains. Keep away from junk food and baked goods, aside from the occasional treat.
3.-Continue to exercise
On the same note, exercise is one of the best ways to maintain your new sculpted look. It improves fat loss and helps to reduce skin sagging, which can occur when you lose large amounts of fat.
Exercises that build muscle volume are preferred because they help to replace fat and get your body looking more toned. These activities include weight lifting, aerobics, dancing, and yoga. Even brisk walking is a good option if you are feeling too sore or numb to exercise.
Remember that CoolSculpting isn’t about losing pounds of weight. You probably won’t notice any difference on the scale, especially since muscle weighs more than a similar volume of fat. You will see the changes in your body contours, however.
4.-Attend follow-up treatments as directed
Most people see positive results as soon as two weeks after their first session. These results continue to improve for several more months as the body eliminates the dead fat cells.
However, you can get even better results if you continue with follow-up treatments as recommended. If our experts advise three sessions, turn up for the other two to ensure that you get the complete treatment. Many people only need one treatment, but others may need 1-2 more for optimal results.
There are a couple of reasons why you should see the procedure through as suggested by your aesthetician:
- CoolSculpting can only reach so much fat at a time. Subsequent treatments may be needed to reach deeper layers of fat.
- During the treatment, different paddles are used to target specific parts of the body for sculpting. It is not an exact art. Therefore, issues like contouring might need to be addressed on subsequent visits to ensure a perfectly sculpted body.
5.-Avoid anti-inflammatory medications if possible
Anti-inflammatory medication should be avoided after the CoolSculpting procedure. These include high-dose aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Midol, and Motrin), and naproxen (Aleve and Naprosyn).
Keep away from these drugs for at least six weeks after the procedure. They inhibit the body’s natural inflammatory response, which is how the dead fat cells are removed from the treated areas. Suppressing the inflammatory response may lead to reduced fat loss and medical challenges like the hardening of dead fat cells.
This hardening is known as paradoxical adipose hyperplasia and is one of the worst potential side effects of the treatment. Fortunately, it is very rare and treatable if it occurs. In case you have any after-effects, such as soreness and bruising, please consult our CoolSculpting recovery tips or give us a call.
6.-Wear loose clothing
The treated area can feel sore for some time after treatment. Therefore, we encourage wearing loose, comfortable clothing during and after the procedure.
Loose clothing will give your skin a chance to breathe and recover naturally. If you experience swelling, we may propose wearing a compression garment to help with drainage and to restrict motion in the area.
7.-Be patient with the process and manage side effects
CoolSculpting takes time to provide visible results. Some people may require several months and multiple treatments before full results are achieved.
At the same time, you may also experience dull pains, numbness, minimal bruising, and swelling in the treated area. These are normal and harmless, and they shouldn’t affect the quality of your life.
Be patient with the process. Work with your aesthetician to get through any problems you might face and follow our advice to get the most out of the treatment.
