Obviously, going as long as possible between treatments is ideal. You want to get your money’s worth and avoid unnecessary trips to the med spa or plastic surgeon’s office. So what can you do to make your results last as long as possible? Here are some tips.

Choose Longer-Lasting Formulas

There are tons of different fillers on the market these days. While most botulinum toxin products like Botox and Dysport don’t vary much in how long they last (about 3-4 months on average), fillers are a different story.

Soft tissue fillers are usually made from hyaluronic acid, but the formulas contain different molecule sizes, which affects their performance and longevity. The formula you should choose will depend on your provider’s recommendation and the area you want to treat, but you can help to extend your results by choosing formulas that are expected to last up to a year or more, rather than a product that only lasts 4-6 months.

Stay Out of the Sun

Sun exposure accelerates aging and can cause even more wrinkles to appear. By keeping your skin safe from the sun, you can encourage long-lasting results from Botox and fillers.

This doesn’t mean that you should skip the beach altogether—it just means you need to be diligent about protecting your skin, especially right after a treatment session. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and big hats are your friend, even when the sun isn’t strong!

Take Care of Your Skin

A regular skincare regimen is important for maintaining your skin’s health and beauty. Botox and fillers can reduce wrinkles and make you look younger, but they won’t have a positive impact on your skin’s tone and texture.

Eat Right

Follow Your Doctor’s Instructions

Generally, injectables don’t require you to take any time off from your daily activities. With that said, your provider might tell you to avoid sun exposure and strenuous activity for 24 hours, to remain upright for several hours, or not to touch your face for a certain period of time. By following these instructions, you’ll set yourself up for the best results possible and avoid potential complications.

Be Realistic

There are definitely ways to maximize your results from cosmetic treatments and ensure that they last as long as possible. But it’s also important to be realistic and to realize that fillers and Botox are, by their nature, temporary. If you want lasting results, you’ll need to come into the office periodically and get maintenance treatments or consider surgery.

Results might fade more quickly for certain people. Very active people with fast metabolisms might need more frequent injections, for instance. The treatment area can also affect the longevity of the results—injections in high-movement areas like the lips tend to fade more quickly than in areas like the tear troughs.

Remember to be realistic and to ask your doctor for help if you have any questions about how long your results might last!
