Your entire appearance can be affected by how your skin looks. Clogged pores, fine lines, pimples, discoloration, flakiness, and other unwanted skin conditions can make you look older.
To reverse these unwanted conditions, and let your healthy skin shine through, you’ll need a nonsurgical procedure to rejuvenate your skin. But skin resurfacing treatments come in many varieties, all of which work a bit differently from each other. If you’re looking for a way to get your natural glow back, consider one of these three main methods of skin resurfacing.
1. Laser Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing, like Fraxel, Laser Genesis, Cutera Titan, and LimeLight IPL work by damaging the top layers of skin cells to encourage healing and the rejuvenation of the skin beneath these dead cells. These laser techniques are fast, effective, and very precise, especially when performed by an experienced facial plastic surgeon. Laser resurfacing techniques are very successful at treating wrinkles, scars, and other blemishes. Some patients will see a dramatic improvement to their acne scars, age spots, sun damage, birthmarks, and even enlarged oil glands around the nose.
During the laser resurfacing process, very fine beams of light are targeted at the facial skin in short, concentrated bursts. One layer of dead skin cells can be removed at a time, allowing your surgeon to penetrate the skin as much as needed. They can also use a different depth to treat various skin concerns, something that is more difficult to accomplish with a chemical peel. The laser resurfacing process is highly customizable to treat small spots of the face or the entire face, whatever is required to help a patient achieve his or her desired results.
2. Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is a specially formulated, topical treatment that can help smooth your skin’s texture and even out its tone. This chemical solution will remove the damaged layers of skin and collected dead skin cells that sit on top of the healthy skin cells below.
It is a very quick and completely nonsurgical treatment that can be used to solve common skin problems, including acne scars, pimples, age spots and other discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles, sun spots and freckles, rough or flaky skin, dry skin, scaly patches of skin, surgical and injury scars, and more.
Chemical peels are formulated in three strengths:
- Superficial chemical peels, like the Obagi Blue Radiance Peel, are mild and gentle, clearing away only the topmost layers of dead skin cells
- Medium chemical peels, like an Obagi Blue Peel or VI Peel, penetrate into the top layer of the dermis to solve deeper problems.
- Deep chemical peels, like the Vitalize Peel, can extend further into the deeper layers of the dermis for a powerful and comprehensive treatment of your skin concerns.
Mirror Mirror Beauty Boutique can design the right chemical peel to address your skin’s unique needs. Your treatment regimen, and the type of chemical peel used during your visits, can be determined after an examination of your skin during your initial conultation.
3. Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion is a harsher, but effective approach to refreshing the surface of the skin. This technique involves scraping away the dead skin cells from the surface and stimulating the healing process to create a rejuvenated appearance. Typically, patients may experience very deep and effective results, but more redness and swelling than the other procedures induce. Dermabrasion can be useful for treating the whole face or just a small part, especially to diminish the appearance of deep scars if present.
A gentler, less agressive technique based on the same theory of treatment is microdermabrasion. Mirror Mirror uses Diamond Tome microdermabrasion technology to gently remove the top layer of skin. It is an excellent choice for patients who want to refresh their skin with no downtime. It works well when combined with a chemical peel or laser treament.
Finally Epidermal Leveling, also known as Dermaplaning or Blading, is also available to gently exfoliate and remove the top layers of skin tissue. It is complimentary with other mild treatment like the Obagi Blue Radiance Peel or IPL Laser Therapy.
