Ultherapy, or an Ulthera Lift, is just one of the latest in such treatments that offers immediate results for those looking for a refreshed and more youthful appearance.
It has been called “Spanx for skin.” It is one of the new so-called “energy devices.” Ulthera is a non-invasive procedure that uses a focused ultrasound to tighten and lift the skin on the face and neck. It is also used to smooth the upper part of the torso exposed by the neckline of your clothing, also known as the décolletage.
How Ulthera Works
Most people don’t want to go through all that a surgical facelift entails, but most people do want to improve their appearance. They want to reduce signs of aging, by getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles and tightening any lax skin. Because of this demand there are an increasing number of non-surgical aesthetic and cosmetic procedures available from laser therapy to injectables and fillers. But these only treat the upper layers of the skin.
Ulthera addresses the same kinds of deep tissues that surgical facelifts do, but instead of a scalpel it uses a non-invasive beam of ultrasound waves. You may associate ultrasound with medical imaging as its most common use is to check on the health of a fetus during pregnancy. It is a high pitched frequency, greater than the upper limit of our hearing range, that when sent through skin, tissue, and bone is reflected to produce an image of what lies beneath. It is also used by animals like bats and porpoises in the same way we use our eyes to see the world.
This same technology can be used to agitate and stimulate the cells responsible for the body’s healing processes. This produces collagen, a key ingredient in skin that is tight, smooth, fresh, and youthful in appearance.
The Ulthera Procedure
Ulthera is applied in an office setting by a medical practitioner with a handpiece device that looks very similar to the one used with pregnant women. The ultra high-frequency sound waves are delivered and focused deep within the layers of the skin.
A single session will very rarely show an immediate effect, because the body takes time to respond and start producing the collagen that make the skin look younger and reduce the signs of aging. The medical practitioner will establish a course of treatments to achieve the desired results.
The Benefits of an Ulthera Lift
This lack of immediacy and need for multiple treatments is a drawback when compared with other procedures like surgery or injectables like Botox and filler. But this reliance on working with the natural processes of the body is one the major strengths of Ulthera. This means, that in the right hands, that it is completely safe with no downtime. Over the course of treatments these natural processes are stimulated resulting in firmer, tighter skin.
Many doctors and practitioners have jumped on the Ulthera bandwagon because of the great reviews associated with it. But not all receive adequate training or have the medical background necessary to make it work for each patient’s needs and desired outcome. For optimal results, without detriment, and unneeded treatments make sure your practitioner is highly trained and understands the technology and how to apply it.
